Comet Volleyball fall to Vikings in conference nail biter

Valley City, N.D. - Mayville State University Comet Volleyball took on the Valley City State Vikings on the road Wednesday night. Despite a thrilling 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th set, the Comets would fall 2-3 to the Vikings.

Set 1 L 9-25
- Valley City dominated in the first set jumping out to a 10-2 lead and wouldn't look back.
- There were zero lead changes as Valley stayed ahead the entire game
- Valley City would have a .424 kill percentage

Set 2 W 25-23
- This set would stay close all the way until the end
- The score was tied 11 times and there were 6 different lead changes
- Mayville State's kill percentage would reach .122

Set 3 L 19-25
- Valley City got out to a 4-0 lead, but the Comets battled back, taking the lead 6-5
- Things would go back and forth with 7 tied scores and 4 different lead changes
- Once the Vikings hit 20, they would hold off the Comets for a 2-1 lead

Set 4 W 25-17
- The Comets, looking to stay alive, got off to a 3-0 start but the Vikings would quickly tie that up
- After 5 ties and just 2 lead changes in set 4, the Comets would make a late push to score 4 in a row
- Their kill % would be the highest of the day in set 4 at .294

Set 5 L 15-17
- Set 5 would be a thriller with 9 tied scores and 3 lead changes
- With the Comets up 10-8, the Vikings took a time out and responded by tying it up 10-10
- Tied 15-15, two Vikings kills would give the Vikings all they needed to win over the Comets

Head Coach Katie Aasen's Highlights:
- Overall once we got going we saw our block and defense elevate our play
- Anrea Majchrzak played a great game with her block and killing bringing energy to the floor
- Claire Bjorneby and Danica Hanson created great out of system plays and scored for us when back at the service line
- It was a great conference match up that we wish would have gone our way

Emily Condon - 15 digs, 1 service ace

The Comets will host the University of Winnipeg this Friday and Saturday for Farmer's Bowl & Homecoming. Friday night will be parents night, JV will kick off the weekend at 5pm followed by varsity at 7pm.
