Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State Comets Men's Basketball returned home Friday night to host the Dickinson State Blue Hawks.

The game would head to double overtime and the Blue Hawks would find momentum late to defeat the Comets 89-85.

1st Half Scoring: Comets 34, Dickinson State 24

• Dickinson State gets the first 2 buckets on the board to lead 4-0
• Back to back 3 pointers put the Comets up 8-4
• 5 minutes in the Blue Hawks would get within 1 but back to back jumpers by Cristian Butler and Trey Swayzer put the Comets back up by 5
• Neither team scored over the next 3 minutes
• Justin Fisher and Stevan Garza buckets put Mayville State up by 7
• After a back and forth battle, the Blue Hawks nail a 3 pointer to tie it up 24-24 with 4:20 to go
• Mayville State would score the next 10 points to put the Comets up 34-24 at the half

2nd Half Scoring: Comets 41, Dickinson State 31

• Dickinson scores in the opening drive and heads to the line to nail a 3 point play and bring them within 7
• It would be a game of back and forth for the next five minutes until the Comets went back up by 11
• Comets would go on a 7-0 run to get their largest lead of the night with 15
• The Blue Hawks followed up with a 13-0 run to bring it to a one possession game; 63-61 Comets with 5 minutes remaining
• 2 Dickinson free throws and a jumper with 30 seconds remaining tied it up 65-65 

1st Overtime Scoring: Comets 8, Dickinson State 8

• Comets get up by 2 with 1 minute, 30 seconds remaining
• Back to back free throws for the Dickinson ties things up 73-73

2nd Overtime Scoring: Comets 12, Dickinson State 16

• Dickinson laid in the first and second buckets putting them up by 4
• Both teams go shot for shot but the Comets can't get passed the 2 point lead of the Blue Hawks
• Darren Jones fouls out with 45 seconds remaining
• With 30 seconds remaining, Dickinson lead by as much as 7
• Fisher would cut this deficit to just 2 points after back to back jumpers and sinking a 3 with 1 second left
• The Comets would be forced to foul on the in bounds play sending Dickinson State to line to seal the win 89-85

• Darren Jones - 30 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals, 13-21 from the field
• John White, Jr. - 14 points, 3 rebounds, 4-5 from behind the arc
• Justin Fisher - 13 points, 7 rebounds

The Comets move to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in NSAA play. They will host the University of Jamestown Jimmies tomorrow at 5:00pm following the women's game.
