Comets Sweep Providence in Dominant Back-to-Back Performances in Season Opener

MAYVILLE, N.D. - The Mayville State University men's basketball team opened their home slate over the weekend, delivering a commanding two-game sweep over Providence University College. The Comets overwhelmed the Pilots in both match ups, cruising to victories of 105-46 on Friday and 112-57 on Saturday inside the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

Mayville State's offense was firing on all cylinders from start to finish.  Across the two contests, the Comets averaged 108.5 points per game while holding Providence to just 51.5 points.

Game 1: Comets roll to 105-46 
In Friday's opener, the Comets left little doubt early. A 52-20 halftime lead set the tone for what became a wire-to-wire statement win. Christian Bowen-Webb led the charge with 21 points, while Amon Moore added 17 points and 9 rebounds. Isaiah Smith controlled the paint with a double-double, scoring 12 and pulling down 13 boards. Malik Siggers also chipped in 14 points in limited minutes.

Mayville dominated the stat sheet, out rebounding the Pilots 42-27 and forcing 22 turnovers that led to 31 points. Providence struggled to find any rhythm, shooting 30.6 % from the field and just 22.7 % from beyond the arc. 

Game 2: Offense stays hot in 112-57 win
The following afternoon saw more of the same. The Comets again jumped out early, leading 53-29 at halftime before stretching the margin to 55 points by the final buzzer. Mayville State shot 54.9 % from the field for the game and connected on 11 three-pointers, with 83 points coming from its deep and productive bench.

Malik Siggers continued his efficient play with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Darius Brant posted 14 points and 7 rebounds. Ollie Fell provided a spark off the bench, scoring 12 points in 16 minutes. The Comets again punished Providence on both ends, forcing 29 turnovers and converting 41 points off those miscues.
