MAYVILLE, N.D. — The Mayville State University Comets Men's Basketball team hosted Briar Cliff Friday night for a non-conference match up and their 5th home game of the season. Despite a late push, the Comes couldn't quite erase an early deficit, falling 80–73 to the Chargers and getting their first loss of the season.

The Comets trailed by as many as 18 in the second half before flipping the game's tempo behind the shot-making of Christian Bowen-Webb and the interior scoring of Darius Brant. Mayville State outscored the Chargers 43–38 after halftime and sliced the deficit to five in the final minute, but Briar Cliff's composure at the free-throw line sealed the outcome.

Bowen-Webb delivered one of the best performances so far this season, scoring 24 points on 10-of-21 shooting, including four threes. He hit three of those after the break, sparking the Comets' push from long range. Brant added 20 points, eight rebounds and going 6-for-12 at the line.

Off the bench, Malik Siggers provided an important lift with 16 points and two assists, while Isaiah Smith stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five steals, and four points. Mayville State's bench contributed 23 total points.

The Comets shot 43 percent from the floor and 6-of-14 from deep, heating up especially late. Defensively, Mayville State forced 15 turnovers and converted them into 15 points, while Smith and Bowen-Webb combined for six steals.

The Comets will return home to host Valley City State in their Frontier Conference debut on November 18th at 7:00pm in the Lewy Lee. Their next game is Tuesday, November 11th at the University of North Dakota and tip off will be at 7:00pm.
