Comets Outlast Vikings in Frontier Conference Thriller Tuesday Night

MAYVILLE, N.D. — Mayville State University opened its Frontier Conference schedule with an 85–82 win over Valley City State on Tuesday night at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse, using efficient shooting and key late-game free throws to secure the conference victory.

The two teams played evenly through the opening period, entering halftime tied at 42-42. Mayville State gained separation early in the second half behind contributions from Isaiah Smith, who finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds, and Christian Bowen-Webb, who added 14 points, including four three-pointers.

Junior forward Dairus Brant led the Comets with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks, anchoring a Mayville State offense that shot 56.4% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range. Brant scored 14 points in the first half and remained a consistent interior presence on both ends.

Off the bench, senior guard Malike Siggers delivered one of the key performances of the night. Siggers scored 20 points on perfect 6-for-6 shooting and went 8-for-10 at the free throw line, including a pair of makes with no time remaining to seal the win.

Mayville State held a 36-14 advantage in points in the paint, a decisive factor in the win.

The Comets will host No. 6 Montana Tech Friday night at 7:00pm followed by No. 24 Montana Western at 7:00pm Saturday night. For full schedule details visit: https://msucomets.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
