Garza & Williams combine for 42 in Comets win over Dakota State Friday night

Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State Comets Men's Basketball headed south for their final road series of the regular season, first taking on the Dakota State Trojans on Friday night.

In the 3rd match up this season with Dakota State and the series tied 1-1 overall, the Comets managed to get the win 77-73 in Madison. London Williams had a career high 23 points and with his 5 rebound he surpassed 500 career rebounds. 

1st Half:
- Justin Fisher nails a 3 to tie things up 9-9 after the first four minutes 
- Comets lead by as much as 12, midway through the half
- Stevan Garza scores 14 points in the half and boosts the Comets up by 14 at the buzzer
- Comets 45, Trojans 31

2nd Half:
- The second half would be nearly the same as the first offensively
- Comets remain in control for the first 10 minutes, consistently leading by 10-13 points
- Mayville State struggles to muster up offense in the next five minutes and the Trojans take the lead 63-61 with 7:30 remaining
- That's the closest the Trojans would get, as the Comets turn back on their defense and chip away 
- The Comets are able to stop the late run by the Trojans and get the win 77-73

- London Williams - 23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals
- Stevan Garza - 19 points, 8-10 from the field, 4 rebounds
- John White, Jr. - 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals

The Comets improve to 16-10 overall and 7-6 in NSAA play. They sit in the 3rd place behind Jamestown who is 9-4 in conference. Mayville State has locked down the 3rd seed in the NSAA standings and will host the first round of the NSAA conference tournament.
