MAYVILLE, N.D. — The Mayville State men's basketball team stayed competitive for much of the night but could not overcome a decisive second-half surge, falling 86–70 to Providence (Mont.) on Friday evening at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
The Comets opened the game with strong energy, trading baskets early and keeping the contest tight through the first half. Mayville State led by four points at the break, 41–37.
Providence created separation after halftime, using a 14–4 run early in the second half to extend its lead into double figures. Despite multiple scoring pushes from the Comets, the Argos maintained control behind efficient shooting and consistent production at the free-throw line.
Darius Brant led Mayville State with 23 points and 8 rebounds, Ollie Fell added 13 points, while Devin Griffin had 9 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists.
Mayville State shot 50 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range, but turnovers and second-chance opportunities proved costly.
The Comets will get a shot at another Montana opponent Saturday night as they host Montana State University-Northern. Tip off is set for 7pm. For full schedule details visit: https://msucomets.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
