The Mayville State University women's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday to take on NCAA II Bemidji State University in a non-conference matchup in Bemidji, Minnesota.
The Comets battled the Beavers tough and held a two-point advantage at the half, but BSU would fight back and take control in the second half to come away with a 87-76 win.
Freshman guard
Hailey Longtin turned in an outstanding performance for the Comets, pouring in 7-of-11 three-pointers on the evening and adding five free throws to finish with a game-high 26 points. Longtin also led the Comets with four assists on the night and added three rebounds.
Eli Cosme-Gonzalez was 6-for-10 from the field to finish with 16 points and Kira DeMorales was 5-of-6 from the field to finish with 10 points.
Laura Taylor and Danielle Jackson each chipped in with nine points for the Comets.
Bemidji State held the advantage at the free throw line as the Beavers knocked down 30-of-38 attempts from the charity stripe. The Comets were 14-for-25 from the line. The Beavers also held a 39-38 rebounding advantage over the Comets in the game.
BSU finished the game with three players in double figures. Ellie Wessling finished with 16, Melissa Borstner had 15, and Samantha Baldwin finished with 12. Bemidji State is now 1-0 on the season.
MSU falls to 0-4 overall and will return to action again this Friday when they host the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
