The Mayville State University men's basketball team got back on track on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 when they welcomed the Trinity Bible College Lions to the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse. The men relied on a balanced offense and great production off the bench as they rolled the Lions 93-59.
Eric Shulstad led the team going for 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists in only 19 minutes on the floor. Shulstad was effective on offense going 6-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Gus Kueber followed Shulstad with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Kueber was even more efficient offensively going 7-for-8 from the floor.
The rest of the offense was balanced throughout the rest of the team.
Brady Robbins was the third and final Comet to hit double figures as he scored 10 points off the bench.
Adam Edwards,
Jake Reynen, and
Danny Mattson each followed with nine.
Mattson, a freshman from Warren, Minnesota saw his first action in front of the crowd in Mayville and played well in his home debut.
Mayville State dominated the rebound battle tonight as they out-muscled the Lions 43-25 on the glass.
Daniel Diaz led the Comets on the boards tonight as he came off the bench and grabbed six rebounds to go along with his six points.
The biggest stat for Mayville State in this game was the Comets committing only nine turnovers total. They valued each possession and got the most out of their opportunities. On the flipside they were able to force the Lions into 17 turnovers.
It was an all-around good night for the men as everyone on the roster got in the game and scored.
The Lions had an outstanding performance from their guard Mikey Rosario. The guard scored 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting to lead all players.
Mayville State (5-4) will be on the road this Saturday, November 19, 2011 when they take on Minnesota State University-Moorhead Dragons in Moorhead, Minnesota. This should be a good test for the men with the Dragons (1-0) coming off a big win against NDSU earlier this month. Game time on Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m.
