On Friday, November 04, 2011 Mayville State University welcomed the Oglala Lakota College Bravehearts to the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse for an afternoon match-up on the hardwood.
Hailey Longtin and
Erin Ericson had big games on the offensive side of the floor to pace the offense.
Longtin lead all scorers with 26 points on 10-for-14 shooting. She was hot from the three-point line going 4-for-6 in the game. Longtin also rebounded well as she led all players with seven rebounds. She also added three assists and one steal in her 27 minutes on the floor.
Ericson was right behind Longtin in scoring as she finished with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Ericson knocked down 3-of-8 three-point shots and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line as well. She played with active hands on defense collecting three steals for a nice overall game.
Nobody else hit double figures for Mayville State in this game but there were plenty of contributions on offense for Coach
Dennis Hutter. Twelve out of the fifteen that played in this game found their way into the box score.
Megan Groen and
Erica Amann each had nine points, Erika Henrikson had eight,
Hana Mills had seven,
Ashley Holmstrom scored six,
Taylor Palmer had four, and
Kay Laforet,
Sabrina Rude, and
Hannah Wenaas each finished the night with two points. The ball was being spread around to whoever was open in this one.
Mayville State shot the ball well in this one as a team going 39-for-67 which is about a 58% clip from the floor. Of the 39 shots that went in, 26 of them came off assists. Laforet lead the team in that area with seven assists in the game. Longtin, Mills, and Wenaas followed her with three assists each.
Turnovers kept the Bravehearts from ever making a comeback in this one as the Comets forced their opposition into 38 mistakes. The team was playing aggressively on defense with 25 steals as a team. Holmstrom led all Comets with six steals as she played with great effort on defense.
Mayville State University (5-0) doesn't have much time to rest as they will be welcoming the Dakota State University Trojans (1-0) tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse.
