The Mayville State University baseball team continued Dakota Athletic Conference play as they split a two game series with Valley City State University at a neutral field.
Game 1: Mayville State 5 – Valley City State 1
The Comets got off to a quick start in the opening game by scoring two runs in the first inning.
Ricky Alvernaz had two RBIs and
Brad Ferraro added another. The Comets also took advantage of two Viking errors to round out the scoring.
Game 2: Mayville State 3 – Valley City State 4
The second game of the evening required an extra inning to determine the winner. The Comets scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. MSU carried that lead into the bottom of the seventh until VCSU hit in a couple of runs to tie it up at 3-3. The Vikings pulled out a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to win the game.
The split moves the Comets to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in Dakota Athletic Conference play.
