The Mayville State University and Valley City State University baseball team had to travel to Minot, ND on Wednesday, April 20 to find a playable field for their Dakota Athletic Conference doubleheader. The teams split the series, each taking a win in convincing fashion.
Game 1: Mayville State 5 – Valley City State 12
The Vikings took game one by scoring 12 runs in a three inning stretch. VCSU knocked in two runs in the fourth and then followed up with five runs in each the fifth and sixth innings.
The Comets answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh.
Jake McLain led the Comet offense compiling three hits, two runs and an RBI.
Ricky Alvernaz went 3-for-3 at bat and had one run.
Game 2: Mayville State 18 – Valley City State 5
The Comets replied by taking game two in even more convincing fashion. Mayville State started by scoring early and often. MSU knocked in three runs in the bottom of the first, two in the second and two in the third.
The offense really exploded in the eighth, posting eight runs on the board. The Comets knocked in three more in the sixth to make the final score 18-5.
Brad Ferraro and
James Olderbak each came up with four RBIs in the game.
Ricky Alvernaz and
Billy Tomblin each contributed another three.
