Comets women improve to 14-1 with dominant effort against Johnson & Wales 94-67

MAYVILLE, N.D. – Marcisa McMillan established early that she was not going to be stopped by anyone as she led the Comets to a 94-67 victory with 23 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and one steal. McMillan was extremely efficient offensively going 11-for-15 from the floor.

What may be most impressive is that McMillan did all of her work in just under 22 minutes of play.

The Comets had great balance offensively around McMillan as four other players hit double figures in scoring.

To go along with McMillan's dominance on the inside the Comets were on fire from the three point line. The team went 13-for-23 from the outside hitting 56% from out there.

Hailey Longtin followed with 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Longtin knocked down 4-of-6 from beyong the arch and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

Sabrina Rude wasn't too far behind with 17 points on 5-for-7 from the three point line. Rude also converted both of her free throw attempts.

Angela Tauer quietly had a good game with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Liza Hoglo finished with 10 points to round out the bulk of the scoring.

As a team the women defended hard and rebounded the ball extremely well. The Comets outrebounded the Wildcats 41-29 to control the tempo and create extra opportunities for themselves.

Unselfish play was key for the team as 23 of their 33 made field goals came off an assist. Samantha Heier led the team in assists as she collected six of them in the game.

Mayville State also got Kay Laforet back on the floor as she played her first game in almost a month after a knee injury. Laforet played well in her return to action with four points, five assists and three rebounds.

Mayville State (14-1) will be playing again tomorrow night with another match-up with Northern New Mexico. The Comets defeated Northern New Mexico 79-54 on January 6th in Espanola, NM.
