Balanced Scoring Lifts Comets Past Wesmen, 94-82

Five Comets score in double figures for second game in a row

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- The Mayville State University women's basketball team won their second game in as many days on Saturday with a 94-82 defeat of the University of Winnipeg. The Comets featured a balanced scoring attack with five players hitting double figures.

Liza Hoglo led the team with 22 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Marcisa McMillan added 19 points, a game high nine rebounds and a game high five blocks.

Sabrina rude chipped in 18 points, knocking down six of the team's 16 made three-pointers in the process. Hailey Longtin scored 14 and Angela Tauer added 10 for the Comets.

The Comets led the Wesmen at the half 49-38 but could never go on that big run in the second half to put them away. The Wesmen play a physical game and stayed close relying on that and hitting some timely shots from the outside.

The Wesmen were led in scoring by Alyssa Grant who had 20 points. Megan Noonan was right behind her with 19 for the University of Winnipeg.

The Comets shared the ball well in the game with 26 assists on 30 made field goals. Samantha Heier and Kay Laforet led the team with seven assists each. Defensively the team was strong forcing the Wesman into 0.316% shooting on 25 of 79 from the floor. Mayville State on the other hand shot 0.455% going 30 for 66.

Mayville State (2-0) will be at home again on Saturday, October 26, 2013 against Brandon University. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m and is part of an awareness night for Jake Mueller.
