Mayville State comes up short against MSUM in exhibition contest

MOORHEAD, MN – The Comet women played the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons on Saturday night in an exhibition contest. The Dragons pulled away from the Comets in the second half to win the game 81-64.

MSUM ended the first half on an 8-2 but still trailed Mayville State 37-35 at the break. Sabrina Rude kept the Comets in it with a team-high 19 points. She shot 50% from the floor (6-for-12) and from the three point line (5-for-10) for the Comets. Marcisa McMillan followed Rude with 14 points, five rebounds.

Rude and McMillan, who were both all-conference selections last season, also led the team in two defensive categories. McMillan finished the game with four blocks while Rude got her hands on four steals for MSU.

The Dragons had a nice performance from Morgan Zabel who finished with 23 points, including a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line.

Moorhead State had a 40-28 advantage on the glass with Zabel finishing with a game high 11. The teams tied in turnovers with both committing 16.

The Comets (3-0) will play two more exhibition contests before returning home for a match-up with Finlandia University. The team will take on Bemidji State University on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 on the road followed up by another road game against the University of Minnesota-Crookston the following Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
