MAYVILLE, ND.-- Fresh of a big road win against the University of Minnesota-Crookston the Comet women returned home for the first time in almost a month to take on Finlandia University. MSU used a very balanced offensive attack to take down their opposition 117-36.
Marcisa McMillan had a double-double in this game with a 21 points, 13 rebounds. She also finished with six blocks as she was a force on defense. McMillan was one of seven Comets to finish the game in double figures.
Angela Tauer scored 14 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including 4-for-4 from beyond the arch.
Alyssa Blair,
Erica Henrikson, and
Lindsey Gonsior all came off the bench to add some scoring punch. The trio scored 34 points (Blair 12, Henrikson 11, Gonsior 11) of the 53 off the bench.
Hailey Longtin scored 11 points and
Liza Hoglo added 10 as the other two to hit double figures. Hoglo had a game high 14 rebounds for MSU in the game as well.
Samantha Heier and
Kay Laforet accounted for half of the 24 assists the Comets dished out in this game. Each guard finished the game with six assists.
The Comet offense and defense was on point start to finish. MSU raced out to a big lead in the first half leading 45-15 at the break. Shots kept falling in the second half with MSU outscoring the Lions 72-21.
Mayville State outshot the Lions 56% to 15% from the field. MSU was on fire from beyond the arch connecting on 40% of their three-point attempts (15-for-37). There was also an advantage at the free throw line of 72% versus 62%.
MSU won the rebounding battle 64 to 27 with Hoglo's 14 and McMillan's 13 leading the way for the Comets. Tauer and Blair each finished the game with nine boards and
Sabrina Rude added eight as the Comets had great effort on the glass all game.
Mayville State University (5-0) will be playing next Monday, November 25, 2013 when they travel to Aberdeen, SD for an exhibition contest against the Northern State University Wolves.Â
