Comet women's basketball team defeats Northern New Mexico 73-60

McMillan goes for 21 points, 20 rebounds in defensive battle.

DENVER, CO -- The Comet women played Northern New Mexico on the second day of their road trip and picked up their second win by a final score of 73-60. Mayville State relied on their defense and rebounding to pick up the win in this game.

Marcisa McMillan had a huge night for the Comets on both ends of the floor. McMillan finished with 21 points, 20 rebounds for Mayville State. She shot the ball well (8-for-14) from the floor and balanced her rebounding effort with nine offensive rebounds and 11 defensvie rebounds, controlling both ends of the floor.


Liza Hoglo followed McMillan in scoring with 19 points. She did the bulk of her damage at the free throw line, connecting of 15-of-18 shots from the charity stripe. Hoglo also did the job on the glass pulling down six rebounds.


Angela Tauer scored 12 points and pulled in seven rebounds in the game for her second solid game in a row scoring the ball.


Hailey Longtin scored 11 points to round out the double digit scoring for Mayville State.


Neither team shot the ball particularly well in this contest with Northern New Mexico shooting 34% from the floor (23-of-67) and Mayville State shooting just 29% (18-for-62).


Mayville State had a huge advantage on the glass with a 54-37 advantage including 20 offensive rebounds.


Mayville State (13-2) will be in action again on Saturday, January 18th, 2013 at home against Ashford University at 1:00 p..m.
