Comet Women Win 14th Straight, 100-43 Over Trinity Bible College

Hailey Longtin and Sabrina Rude poured in 24 points each on Tuesday night.

Mayville, ND – The Comet women kept their momentum rolling as they prepare for another showdown with No. 4 Jamestown on Saturday with an emphatic victory over Trinity Bible College at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

Sabrina Rude and Hailey Longtin took a lot of pressure off the offense by providing 48 of the Comets' 100 total points in the game. The guards each put up 24 points on their counterparts in two very different ways.

Rude, who finished the game with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals, did all of her damage from beyond the arc. She connected on 8-of-13 shots from three-point land. You won't find many streaks of "made eight 3's in a game" in a basketball career, but right now she has done it two games in a row.

Over the last two games she has made 16-of-27 (59.3 percent) of her shots from the outside.

Longtin, on the other hand, did a majority of her damage off running the floor off turnovers she or her teammates forced. She finished the night with 24 points, two steals, and one assist. It was also another milestone night for Longtin, who on top of being the current NSAA player-of-the-week, scored her 1,500th point as a Comet basketball player. She came into the game 24 points shy of the achievement and scored exactly what she needed.

Marcisa McMillan had another solid performance with 16 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and one steal for her ninth double-double of the season.

Mayville State opened the game on an 11-0 run and really never looked back from there. The Comets stretched the lead up to 36 in the first half before they headed into the locker room ahead of the Lions 54-20.

The Comets opened the second half with a traditional three-point play made by Longtin, and pushed the lead past 40 points when McMillan scored in the lane with more than 19 minutes remaining in the game.

The lead was 73-25 after a lay-up by Missy Kassube and a Brooke McNary 3-pointer pushed it over 50 points with more than 14 minutes left in the game

Samantha Heier had another solid all-around performance for MSU in this one. Heier, who does a little bit of everything for the team finished with nine points, seven assists, six steals, and three rebounds.

The Comets held TBC to 29.6 percent shooting. The Lions hit just 17 of their 53 shots.

The Comets, who currently ranked No.1 in the NAIA in 3-pt percentage (38.9 percent) were on par with that as they shot 14-of-35 (40 percent) tonight. MSU is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in scoring margin (28.85) as well.

This was the final tune-up for the #13 Comets (19-2, 3-0) before Saturday's showdown with No. 4 Jamestown, which hosts Dakota State tomorrow night (Feb. 5) and hasn't lost since falling to the Comets on January 22.
