The Comets baseball team began fall play on a strong note with doubleheader sweeps of both the University of Winnipeg and Valley City State University.
The Comets opened on the road at Winnipeg for a doubleheader on September 14th. Three Comet pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout and the offense generated 11 hits and 6 walks to plate 10 in a 10-0 victory.
Mitch Anderson had 2 doubles to go along with 3 runs scored,
Zach Mihic drove in 4 runs and
Nate Williams went 3/4 to lead the Comet offense.
Camran Bonnema pitched 3 shutout innings to get the win. The second game of the doubleheader followed a similar script, as strong pitching and a balanced offense led to a 8-0 victory.
Zachary Mahoney opened with 3 shutout innings to get the win, and
Dylan Johnson added 3 K's. On the offensive side, Anderson and
Mason Swegarden each scored twice, while Mihic and
Christian Berry each knocked in 2 runs.
On September 21st, the Comets hosted Valley City. The Comets dominated both games, winning 11-3 and 13-1. In the first game,
John Pistulka swiped 3 bases to go along with 3 runs scored, and
Rowdy Dove smashed a home run to go along with 3 RBI.
Aaron Dick pitched 4 innings and notched 3 strikeouts to get the win. In the second game, every starter got at least one hit and Johnson went 4 strong innings to get the win. Williams went 3/4 in each game to continue his torrid start, and Mihic knocked one out of the park to go along with 3 men plated.Â
The Comets look to continue their hot streak with a game at Presentation College on the 28th.
