After win 950, the Comets Baseball team were eager to keep building towards 1000 with doubleheaders against the Jamestown Jimmines and the Dordt Defenders.
In the first game against Jamestown, the Jimmies opened the scoring with a run in the third. Mayville State rattled off five runs in the next two innings to take a 5-1 lead. Jamestown managed to tie it in the sixth, but the Comets added runs in the sixth and seventh to win 7-5.
John Pistulka and
John Cahill both mashed taters, and
Spencer Mallonee doubled twice and drove in three runs. In the second game, the Jimmies managed to take a early lead again, but the Comets tied it up at 4 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jamestown reclaimed the lead with two runs in the seventh and held on to win 6-4. Cahill drove in three runs and
Nate Williams went 3 for 3 with a run scored.
On Wednesday, the Comets traveled to Iowa to take on the Dordt Defenders. The Comets tallied a run in the first and did not look back, adding four runs in the third and runs in the fourth and sixth to overwhelm Dordt 7-0.
Camran Bonnema scattered five hits over 5.1 innings to get the victory, Cahill drove in three more runs and Mallonee scored three runs on three hits. Both offenses came alive in the second game, with scoring in every inning except the sixth. The Comets displayed their power with home runs by Cahill,
Christian Berry and Jalen Hashberger and won the game 9-5. Berry drove in three runs and
Mason Swegarden went 3 for 5 with two runs scored.
This trip boosts the Comets record to 17-14. Mayville State is in action on Good Friday with a doubleheader againt the Presentation Saints.
