MAYVILLE, ND – The MSU Comets came ready to play in a non-conference game against the Lions of Trinity Bible College out of Ellendale, ND. The team was looking to keep their four-game winning streak going into the second half of their competitive schedule.
The Comets jumped out right away with an 11-0 run that limited the Lions from scoring for almost the first four minutes of action. The Comets continued to keep the defense clamped down throughout the half. The Lions found a little stretch to get some points to get the game to 15-7, however the Comets went on an impressive 16-0 from that point. In that 16-0 stretch, the Comets kept the Lions scoreless for over seven and a half minutes, which was the key factor in the game. The Comet rebounding machine was in-full-force, collecting 34 total rebounds as a team in the first half alone. MSU went into the locker room at the half with a 36-15 lead over the Lions.
It was about the same type of game in the second half, with the Comets nearly doubling the rebounds of the Lions. TBC was 15 of 67 from the field, leaving plenty of rebounds left to scoop up for the Comets. MSU kept building their lead by finding buckets of rebounds and from the outside, including a nice stretch of 3-pointers from
Jack Turnbull and
Taylor Delaughter. The Lions were only able to chip in some free throws at the end of the game as the Comets pulled away big, winning the game 78 to 35 in the end.
Leading the way for the Comets was
Daniel Lindgren with 14 points, tying the Lions top scorer in Zach Marengo. Other scorers for the Comets included
Jack Turnbull with 13, and
Eric Staebler with nine. Twelve men on the team scored for the Comets, giving many players the chance to hit the court. Leading in rebounds was Daymarrco Green with eleven, followed by
Eric Staebler,
Gorg Alhag and
Gonzalo Munoz with six each. All in all, they had 65 total rebounds, compared to 34 for the Lions.
Taylor Delaughter had five assists on the night, followed by Alhag and
Cameron Epps with four each. The team did a nice job of passing the ball effectively with 22 total team assists.
Next in line for the Comets (13-3, 6-1 NSAA) will be another NSAA game this Saturday at Bellevue University, game time 5:00 pm.
