The Mayville State Baseball team bested Macalester College in a high-scoring affair, 16-6, on Sunday afternoon to give the Comets the win on their first day of their trip to Arizona. Macalester College got things going for their offense in the first inning, when Graham Low tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
The Comets took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning, five runs in the fourth, and three more in the fifth.
Rodney Gilbert went deep for MSU in the fifth, then
Spencer Merle and
Andrew Hill were able to get base hits and score for Mayville State, making things 12-6 at that point.
Erik Barron led things off on the rubber for Mayville State University Comets, he surrendered six runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out two.
Andrew Polk toed the rubber for Macalester College. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and four runs. Jacob Simpson and Alex O'Brien entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and two innings respectively.
Mayville State collected 14 hits on the day.

Spencer Merle, and
Rodney Gilbert each collected multiple hits for the Comets. Hill led Mayville State with three hits in four at bats and three RBIs, Wohl drove in another five runs after going 2-for-3 with two walks.
Macalester College scattered eleven hits in the game. Graham Low, Alex Baretta, and Collin Braatner all managed multiple hits for the Scots. Low went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Macalester in hits.
The Comets will square off against Dordt College tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM in day two of their spring break trip.
