The Mayville State Baseball team defeated Dordt College 10-0 on Monday night as three pitchers combined to throw the shutout for the Comets.
MSU got things started in the second inning with
Andrew Hill driving in
Rodney Gilbert with a single.
Spencer Merle was able to score on an error, then
Marcus Wohl singled to right field to score Hill, making it 3-0.
Zachary Foster drove in one more for the Comets in the second inning to give MSU the 4-run lead early in the game.
Mayville State then got one run in the fifth and put up five runs in the eighth to give the Comets a commanding lead. The offensive onslaught came from RBI singles by
Riley Nelson and JQ Folena, a sacrifice fly by Jon Pluth that gave
Shelton Grace the opportunity to score, and an RBI from Wohl on a fielder's choice by Dordt.
Parker Stohr earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for the Comets. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking none.
Conner Starke and
Kalton Agnes entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Luke Drooger took the loss for Dordt College after going five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out four.
Mayville State tallied ten hits in the game. Andew Hill and
Riley Nelson each had multiple hits for the Comets with Hill ending up 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the way for MSU.
Schreieber led Dordt College with two hits in four at bats.
The Comets will play Benedictine University at Mesa tomorrow evening at 5:30 pm.Â
