BELLEVUE, NE - Mayville State took the lead late and defeated Bellevue University 5-3 in game one of their double-header on Thursday. The Comets trailed 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning when
Obie Wilder hit a 3-run shot to give MSU the lead and eventual win over the Bruins.
Bellevue was able to get things started with two runs in the first, then added on another in the second. The Comets were able to get on the board in the third with two runs scored by
Andrew Hill and Jonathon Pluth.
Then came the shot by
Obie Wilder that gave the Comets the lead and the victory in game one.
Erik Barron took the win for the Comets, he lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out three.
Mason Swegarden threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Swegarden recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Mayville State.
The Comets racked up nine hits in game one. Jonathon Pluth,
Andrew Hill, and Zach Foster all managed multiple hits for Mayville State. Pluth went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Comets in hits.
The Comets couldn't manage to get anything going in game two of the double-header, Reid Feeley shut Mayville State out on the way to a 5-0 Bellevue victory.
The Bruins manufactured 2 runs in the third and 3 in the fifth off of some timely hitting and an error by Mayville State. That was all Bellevue's Feeley would need as they defeated the Comets 5-0 in game two and earned the split.
Feeley took the win for Bellevue. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over six innings, striking out six.
Mason Swegarden took the loss for Mayville State, he lasted four innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out three.
