The Augustana Vikings were too much for Mayville State in their 9-inning game on Wednesday evening. The Comets were able to get on the board first, but the Augustana pitching eventually stiffened and shut the door on MSU. The Vikings' bats were able to get runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth on their way to a 6-1 win.  

Mayville State got things started in the first inning when Jonathan Pluth hit a solo home run over the left field fence. The Comets would be able to get base runners throughout the game, but the homer in the first was all they would get for runs against Augustana. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Michael Svozil was able to tag up on Jordan Barth's sac fly to tie things up at one for Augustana. 

The Vikings took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Lucas Wylie hit a solo shot over the right field fence. Augustana tacked on a run in the sixth then scored three runs in the eighth to make it 6-1. 

The Comets only managed five hits off of the Augustana pitching. Zachary Foster, Rodney Gilbert, Riley Nelson, Jonathan Pluth, and Jonathon Folena each collected a hit for Mayville State. 

Augustana racked up ten hits in the game. Lucas Wylie, Michael Svozil, and Riley Johnson all managed two hits to lead the Vikings. 

This loss ended a 5-game winning streak for the Comets. ?Mayville State now travels down to Omaha, NE for games against Bellevue and Dickinson State tomorrow, then has another matchup against Bellevue on Friday afternoon.
