Comets Secure League Championship

MAYVILLE, ND - The Comet Baseballl team secured the North Star regular season championship with a sweep over the Valley City State Vikings on Saturday afternoon. This marks Coach Berry's 24th regular season conference championship and puts Mayville State in a great position with a top seed for next week's conference tournament.  

Mayville State exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to get the 10-1 victory over Valley City State in game one at Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at one with the Comets batting in the bottom of the sixth when Brady Nygaard hit a solo homer, then the flood gates opened up.

RBIs from Jonathan Folena, Andrew Hill, and Zachary Foster extended the Comets' lead to 8-1 in the sixth inning to put MSU ahead for the victory. 

Andrew Hill led Mayville State at the plate by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in runs on a home run in the fifth, a single in the sixth, and a single in the seventh.

Craig Broadman earned the win for the Comets. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing one hit without giving up a run. Mason Swegarden and Conner Starke entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Jordan Roos took the loss for Valley City State. He allowed three hits and three runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Mayville State racked up 11 hits in the game. Andrew Hill, Spencer Merle, and Brady Nygaard each collected multiple hits for MSU, Hill led the Comets with three hits in four at bats. 

In game two, the Comets managed to keep the momentum going and defeat Valley City State 7-2 for Mayville State's 17th North Star win.

Mayville State pulled away for good with five runs in the fifth inning. Brady Nygaard, Spencer Merle, and Mason Przybilla all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning to give the Comets a 7-1 lead at the time.

Erik Barron led Mayville State to victory on the pitcher's mound. He allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out five without walking a single VCSU batter. Kalton Agnes threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Comets collected eight hits as a team. Spencer Merle, Brady Nygaard, and Zachary Foster all managed multiple hits for Mayville State to lead the team in game two of the double-header.
