FARGO, ND - The Comets fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-5 loss to North Dakota State on Tuesday night. The Bison got things going with a big second inning, Nick Emanuel, Bennett Hostetler, and Matt Elsenpeter all strung together base hits with runners on base to make it 5-0. Mason Pierchalski then doubled to bring in two more runs, followed by a base hit from Carter Thompson to bring in Pierchalski and make it 8-0.
Mayville State would make a late surge and tally five runs in the sixth inning.

Brady Nygaard all contributed in the big inning with RBIs, but the comeback effort would come up short in the 62nd meeting between the two teams.Â
Mitch O'Connor pitched NDSU to victory after going five innings without giving up a run or a hit to the Comet batters, he struck out six and walked none. A number of pitchers entered the game in relief for the Bison, with Hunter Koep, Chris Choles, Jake Drew, and Zach Smith all securing outs and ultimately the victory.Â
The Comets will face off against the Dakota State Trojans in the opening round of the North Star Conference Tournament starting this Friday. Mayville State's first game is set to get started at 1:00 pm at Charlie Brown Stadium in Valley City, ND, the second round game for the Comets will also be played in Valley City. Round three and four will be played at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, ND.Â
