Berry Reaches 1,100 Win Mark

With Sunday's doubleheader victory against the Dakota State Trojans in Dickinson, N.D., Mayville State Head Baseball Coach Scott Berry reached the 1,100 win plateau.

"These victories are a byproduct of their (individual players) excellence," he said. "I thank them for making all this possible."

Mayville State Athletic Director Ryan Hall praised Berry's efforts.

"In my short time here, I couldn't have been more fortunate to work with a national icon here at MSU in Scott Berry," Hall said. "The numbers speak for themselves and the program's success of excellence has been evident over the years under coach's leadership, but just as impressive has been the man I have gotten to know off of the field which has been such an impact on me already, a true blessing. "

Berry is in his 38th season as the head coach of the Mayville State Comets. In his 38 years, Berry's teams have won 23 regular season conference championships, including every conference regular season title from 1986 to 2002, along with 22 conference tournament championships. The Comets have made 28 appearances in the NAIA national playoffs.

"I'm very fortunate and humbled to have had the opportunity to coach so many great teams and individual players," Berry said.

Under Berry's leadership, the Comets have won three NAIA regional titles, won the 2002 Plains Super Regional title and finished in fifth place at the NAIA World Series in 2002.

Coach Berry has been named as Conference Coach of the Year 23 times, District 12 Coach of the Year 9 times, NAIA Region Coach of the Year 4 times.

Athletic Director Hall says Berry is much more than just a coach.

"I know I speak for many who have gotten to know Coach Berry much more than myself when I say congratulations on 1100 wins coach, you deserve it! A true fan and coach of the game, Coach Berry is a top notch representation of Mayville State University," he said.
