Duluth, Minn. - Comet Baseball is mourning the loss of one of their own. Former assistant Coach Pete Pratt, aka Chief, passed away November 28th after a long time battle with his health.
Coach Pratt was an assistant for the Comets starting in the fall of 2010 until 2016, where he played a huge role in the Comets four championships during that span. He served as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Comets.
He coached along side former head coach Scott Berry and then assistant coach
Billy Tomblin. He also coached Tomblin for one season.
During his MSU tenure he was more than just a baseball coach. Coach Pratt worked in enrollment services and in other areas of athletics athletics as he handled game management for a number of years.
"Peter was a terrific recruiter for MSU and for Comets Baseball. He had a great eye for talent and had a socially engaging personality which endeared him to all he came into contact with; especially the Comets Baseball student-athletes." said former head coach Scott Berry. "He did a masterful job of working with our pitching staff. He coordinated pitching plans, practice routines and strategies to get the very best out of the pitchers."
"Comet Baseball suffered a big loss when the news broke of Coach Pratt passing away. Coach Pratt was one of a kind and played a huge role in the continued success of Comet Baseball both on and off the field." said head Comets baseball coach
Billy Tomblin. "He was far more than just a baseball coach, he was a mentor, a jokester, a life coach and most importantly a friend."
"Coach Pratt was beloved by so many who knew him and we are all blessed to have known him. His efforts with the students and the student-athletes at MSU were far reaching and greatly appreciated," added Berry.
"Coach Pratt will be unbelievably missed and we are forever grateful for his time in Mayville," added Tomblin.
Please keep Pete's family in your thoughts a prayers.
