Comet Softball takes one game in McPherson College Classic

McPherson, Kan. – The Mayville State Softball team picked up one win at the McPherson Invitational. The Comets defeated Tabor College on Saturday by a final score of 13-9.
 
Game One:
The Mayville State Comets offense struggled in game one of the weekend as the Comets could not record more then four hits.
In the sixth inning, MSU would get a lead off single from Lawrence. Two batters later, the Comets would strand a runner at second and third with one out and that was the only scoring chance the Comets had in game one.
Mount Marty would score runs in the second, third, and sixth inning and would cruise to 6-0 run.
 
Courtney Boll: 7.0 IP, 7 Hits, 5 ER, 6 Strikeouts
Sam Shumway: 2 hits
 
Game Two:
Mayville State started the scoring in the second game as Isis Johnson grounded into a fielders choice that scored Shumway.
Baker tied the game in the second inning and took control of the game scoring nine runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to win the game 9-1.
 
Sidney Fairbanks: 5.2 IP, 13 Hits, 6 ER
Sam Shumway: 1 Hit, 1 Run Scored
Erika Howell: 1 Hit
 
Game Three:
The Morningside Mustangs scored five runs in the first two innings of the game to jump out to an early lead.
In the third inning, Howell hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Kennedy Vettel and cut the Mustang lead to four.
The Comets would score again in the fifth inning on a single from Fairbanks that scored Johnson to cut it to a 3-run game. The Mustangs would answer with two runs and the Comets would drop the third game 7-2.
Game Four:
The Mayville State offense exploaded in the last game of the weekend, as the Comets would score 11 runs in the first inning including a 3-run home run from Roeges.
After MSU added a run in the second inning, Tabor would answer with three runs in the second and third inning. The Comets would extend the lead back to 10 in the fourth inning to extend to a 13-3 lead.
Tabor would start the comeback in the fourth inning as they put up six runs to cut the lead to four heading into the final three innings.
Tabor was threatening in the fifth inning but Fairbanks got the batter to fly out to left field and leave the bases loaded in the fifth.
Fairbanks would close the door in the seventh inning after the Blue Jays got the bases loaded with one out with a flyout to left field and a line out to the shortstop.
