Softball Ends Season at Frontier Conference Tournament

Dickinson, N.D. – Mayville State Comet Softball ended their season this weekend after falling to No. 2 seeded Providence Thursday and then later to No. 6 seed Bellevue Friday in what would be both close games.

Thursday vs. No. 2 Providence L 12-15
  • Comets give up 10 runs in the first inning, giving Providence early security
  • Mayville State answered immediately in the 2nd, scoring 7 runs
  • A triple from Antarez Sierra in the 3rd, brought the Comets within one
  • In the tope of the 5th the Comets tied it 12-12 off of a Whitney Rozdeba double & Haylie Padgett single
  • The Argos rallied back late in the 6th, with a home run and a double, plating 3 more runs making it 15-12
  • Padgett drove in four runs and Ryanne Bass had 3 hits
Friday vs. No. 6 Bellevue L 3-5
  • Comets looked to send Bellevue home in the FC elimination game Friday
  • A bloop single in the first scored a runner for Bellevue, who went up 1-0 early
  • In the fourth, the Bruins made it 2-0 off a double
  • The Comets answered back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one from Rozdeba
  • In the fifth, an error, pair of doubles & a home run put the Bruins up 4-1
  • Mayville State didn't stay quiet, Madison Terres led the 6th off with a solo home run to right center & Makenzie Fuxa plated Lisa-Marie Cante, putting the Comets down just 2 heading into the 7th
  • The Bruins would be able to hold the lead and the Comets were eliminated
  • Baileigh Momberg pitched 4.2 innings, striking out 3 and giving up 5 earned runs
  • Lacey Mathiowetz came in relief for Momberg, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up just 1 hit
