Baseball Falls to Jimmies at Home

Box Score Mayville, N.D. - After two postponed game days, the Comets baseball team returned to Scott Berry Field to take on the Jamestown Jimmies in one, 9 inning game. The game was originally scheduled for last Sunday, then Monday, but rain kept them from playing as scheduled.

The Jimmies were unfazed and were able to continue their hot hitting in a 13-1 win. The Jimmies plated five men on six hits in the top of the second to gain an early advantage. Jamestown added runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings to make the score 9-0.

Riley Rankin got the Comets on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bomb to right field. However, the Jimmies responded with a four run outburst in the top of the 8th inning to make the score 13-1 which is how the game ended.

Post game head coach Billy Tomblin said, "Hopefully the really tough lessons we are learning now translates to success in the spring. We have received the tough lesson of the importance of showing up ready to compete at a high level every day."

Rankin was the offensive leader for the Comets, going 1 for 3 with a home run. On the pitching side, freshman Jake Hutter made his collegiate debut a memorable one, facing two betters and striking out both.

"The standard of Mayville State Baseball has been set by years of success and this program has been entrusted in me to ensure that continues. We will get better, we will fix this and we will be successful," said Tomblin.

The loss drops the Comets record to 0-4. Mayville has a quick turn around as they host Dickinson State on Friday September 29th for two 7 inning games. First pitch is 2:00pm.
