Bismarck, N.D. - The Comets Golf Teams opened their third season in Bismarck last week hosted by Valley City. Prairie West in Mandan was the day one course and overall the Comets performed very well. Our men's teams finished in 2
nd and 6
th place after 18 holes.
Masen Nowacki and
Satchel Tickel led the way with 73s and
Bryson Harder shot a 78 for a personal best. On the Women's side, the team was just one shot out of 3
rd place.
Kambree Hauglie shot a 90 to finish at 11
th place and
Kaylee de Rocquigny fired a 96 for a personal best.
Coach Murphy on day one said, "summer golf and competitive golf are two completely different mindsets, so I was interested in how our players would respond. A number of golfers competed in regional amateur tournaments and I believe that experience was very helpful in our fast start.
Day 2 was a late switch to the Tom O'Leary course, which is a noticeably shorter course than our original venue. Once again, the players adapted very well to the change and kept their positions in the rankings, finishing 2
nd and 6
th for the men and 4
th for the women. Three Comets men's players finished in the top 10, with Nowacki solo 5
th at 143, and Tickel and Michael Felchle tied for 6
th at 145. De Rocquigny finished with a 99 to lead the women's team.
"A few of our players have played Tom O'Leary before, so it was another strong performance. Michael Felchle had a fantastic start to his career with a top 10 finish, and both
Bryson Harder and
Carson Weiers set personal bests this week. I think we have some opportunities to enhance our green reading skills, which should lead to even better scores."
The Comets Golf team will travel to Fergus Falls, MN this Sunday to compete in the two day Spartan Invitational.
