Comets Take Two From Vikings at Home

Portland, N.D. - The Mayville State Comets Softball team finally got a home series in on Tuesday afternoon. The Comets hosted Valley City State for a DH at Paul Karlstad Field. Behind strong pitching and defense, Mayville State was able to take two from the Vikings.

Game 1 – W 4-2 

  • Ryanne Bass hit a first pitch grand slam in the first inning to give the Comets early lead
  • Valley City State scores 2 runs on a home run in the 4th inning & despite opportunities, the Comets kept them from crossing home plate
  • Lacey Mathiowetz got the start, going 1.2 innings giving up just 2 hits but came out due to a small injury
  • Jenna Boos stepped into the circle, went the rest of the way, giving up 5 scattered hits and getting her first victory of the season
Game 2 - W 5-3
  • Vikings score first with a double and a SAC fly to get an early lead 2-0 in the first inning
  • Madison Terres smokes her 10th HR of the season to make it a 2-1 ball game, Vikings in the lead
  • Both pitchers kept hitters off balance and it remained 2-1 until the bottom of the 5th
  • With 2 outs, Mackenzie Fuxa hit a single to centerfield to tie the game 2-2
  • In the 6th, Antarez Sierra led the inning off with a single & reached second on a wild pitch
  • After Madison Terres singled to left field, putting runners at 1st & 3rd, Lisa-Marie Cante hit an RBI single, scoring Sierra giving the Comets a 3-2 advantage
  • White Rozdeba scored a run followed by Mackenzie Fuxa reaching on an error putting the Comets up 5-2 heading into the top of the 7th
  • The Vikings scored one in the top of the 7th, but stranded two on base giving the Comets the W
  • Baileigh Momberg went the full 7, scattering 7 hits and striking out 3
The Comets are set to host Carroll Sunday & Monday for their final conference series of the year. These games are TBD due to suspected rain.
