Comet softball team falls to No. 1 ranked California Baptist

The Mayville State University softball team fell to No. 1 ranked California Baptist University on Tuesday in a pair of non-conference road games.

Krista Hendricks had MSU's lone hit in game number one as CBU pitchers Emma Holden and Tory Ferreira combined for a one-hit shutout. Holden struck out seven Comet batters and Ferreira added three strikeouts.

CBU scored four runs in the first, three in the second, and two runs in both the third and fourth innings for a final score of 11-0.

In game number two the Comets faired better at the plate as Jessica Flores and Cara Delgado were 2-for-3, but an explosive CBU offense put up 15 runs in the first en route to a 24-0 decision.

The Comets wrapped up their three-day road trip with valuable experience against the best teams in the nation taking on No. 6 ranked Concordia University, No. 8 ranked California State-San Marcos, and the No. 1 ranked team in California Baptist. That experience should prove to be valuable throughout the remainder of the 2011 season.

MSU will return to action with a spring trip to Tucson, Arizona where they will play teams from around the country beginning March 13 and continuing through March 18. The Comets will open the trip with games against the University of Great Falls and Patten University on March 13th.
