Mother Nature hasn't been very helpful to the Mayville State University softball team's schedule this spring. And once again, weather played a part in the action.
The Comet softball team traveled to Valley City State University for a Dakota Athletic Conference doubleheader on April 21. But the squads were only able to get game one in before rain and inclement weather caused the game to be called off.
Game 1: Mayville State 3 – Valley City State 5
VCSU jumped out to a quick lead when they scored three runs in the first inning. But Mayville State would answer back. The Comets got on the board with one run in the second and then tied the game up at 3-3 with two runs in the fourth.
But the Vikings would take the lead back in the next inning. VCSU scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. This proved to be enough as the Vikings took the game 5-3.
Mayville State came up with eight hits and three RBIs in the losing effort. Cara Delgado led the way with two hits and two RBIs for the Comets.
The game moved MSU to 11-21 overall and 7-7 in conference.
