The Mayville State University volleyball team looked sharp during its first match of the 2011 season on Friday night at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse, taking down visiting Waldorf College in three straight games.

MSU took the first game 25-17, won the second 25-15, and finished the match with a 25-18 win in game number three. The victory gives the Comets a 1-0 record on the new season.

Karee Breon led Mayville State with seven kills and Maggie Maroney finished with six kills as the Comets controlled the tempo of the match throughout the evening. Laura Kolness had five kills, Nikki Roholt had four, and Brittany Olson chipped in with three.

Ariana Odegard led the way for MSU in assists with 12 and Kolness added 10 assists to set up Comet hitters. Ashley Torgusson and Betsy Smith led the way in digs with 14 and 12 digs respectively.
