BISMARCK, N.D. — Mayville State Comet Volleyball hit the road for the last time this season, taking on the Bismarck State College Mystics on Saturday afternoon. In a match that featured 38 ties and 19 lead changes, the Comets fell in a five-set battle, (25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 25-14, 10-15).
The Comets came out strong, taking the opening set behind senior hitter Desidy Schwanke, who tallied a match-high 20 kills on .327 hitting. Bismarck State answered back with consecutive wins in sets two and three.
Mayville State refused to go quietly, dominating the fourth set 25–14 with one of their best offensive stretches of the season, hitting .351 as a team.
The decisive fifth set saw Bismarck State regain its composure, pulling ahead 8–6 at the switch and never relinquishing the lead.
Statistically, Mayville State hit .230 as a team, outpacing Bismarck's .146 mark, but unforced errors and late-set execution proved costly. The Comets totaled 63 kills, 80 digs, and 14 block assists, while Bismarck countered with 54 kills, 78 digs, and 6 team blocks.
In addition to Schwanke's standout night, Cadynce Dewitz added 11 kills and two blocks, while setter Lindsey Nyhagen kept the offense rolling with 29 assists.
