Comets Volleyball Rip Off Four Straight Victories in Nebraska

The Comets Volleyball team opened up a 5 game trip through Nebraska, beginning on Thursday in Bellevue, Nebraska to take on the Bruins. Bellevue scratched out a 25-23 victory in the first game. The second game was also a close battle, but Bellevue prevailed again 25-21. The Comets were unable to pull off the comeback and dropped the third game 15-25. Josette Glatt (10 Kills) and Katie Wangberg (10 Assists) led the Comets.

On Friday, the Comets moved over to Omaha to first take on York College. The Comets managed to sweep the Panthers by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17. Glatt (14) and Remington Werner (10) both hit double figures in Kills, Wangberg dished out 29 Assists, and Paige O'Connor (20) and Gretchen Freed (12) combined for 32 Digs. In their second match of the day, the Comets battled the Swedes of Bethany. The Comets strong play continued as they swept the match by scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-23. Wangberg had a very strong overall game with 6 Kills, 39 Assists and 11 Digs. Werner (16 Kills), Kaitlyn Timian (14) and Kyla Bugner (2 Blocks) controlled the net, and O'Connor and Katie Kolness each dug out 11 shots.

The Comets continued their winning ways on Saturday, first facing off against the Harris-Stowe State Hornets. The Comets dominated the first two matches 25-7 and 25-14 before finishing off the sweep with a 25-21 victory. It was a balanced effort as four Comets recorded 7 Kills and 7 Digs each. Wangberg set up 30 Assists, and Bugner blocked 3 shots. Mayville State finished off the day battling the Eagles of Avila University. The Comets broke out their brooms once more, winning 3 straight games 25-18, 25-18, 25-20. Glatt (10), Timian (10) and Werner (9) combined for 29 Kills, Wangberg had 34 Assists and 10 Digs, and O'Connor had 16 Digs.

The 4-1 road trip boosts the Comets record up to 6-7 going into the first weekend of Conference play. On Friday they take on Dickinson State in Dickinson, followed by a stop in Jamestown on Saturday to contest the Jimmies.
