MSU Comets' Softball opened up their season by going 2-2 in Aberdeen, SD during the Presentation Dome Tournament this past weekend.
Game 1
The Comets opened up the tournament against Valley City State University. Valley City started off on top 5-0 until the 4th inning when Monica Gomez was able to knock in 2 runs, making the score 5-2. MSU ended up falling short to VCSU in seven innings by a final score of 8-2.
Game 2
In game two the Comets squared off against MacMurray College. MacMurray College struck first with one run in the top of the first inning, but Mayville State come struck back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Comets were able to rally 11 hits throughout the game to clinch their first win by a score of 6-4.
Haley Wedgewood was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a HR. Lauren Coronado was 2-2 with two triples. Danielle Sheridan, Tiffany Soria, Monica Gomez, and Kiana Ishikawa all added RBIs to the board to help take the win. Â
Game 3
In game three the Comets came out strong and opened a 7-1 lead against #12 Dickinson State University in the first inning. The Comets were able to tack on four more runs to close out the game, leaving the score 11-6. Mayville was able to capitalize on Dickinson's four errors and out-hit the Blue Hawks 13 to 8.
Both Haley Wedgewood and Tiffany Soria went yard for the Comets. Wedgewood was 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Soria was 2-4 with 5 RBIs. Monica Gomez also tacked on two more RBIs and Lauren Coronado and Kiana Ishikawa added one RBI each to put Mayville past #12 Dickinson.
Game 4
In game four against Northern State University the Comets weren't able to keep their bats swinging as they fell 8-0.
Tiffany Soria and Lauren Coronado each contributed Mayville's only two hits for the game.
The Comets finished the weekend 2-2 and will continue to look for redemption as they head down to Arizona for the Tucson Invitational.
