BELLEVUE, NE - Mayville State fell behind early and couldn't manage to come back in a 7-3 loss to Bellevue in the first game of the double-header on Thursday. The Bruins were able to jump ahead early and build a lead that the Comets couldn't rally against.
Bellevue opened up scoring in the first inning, when Kayla Young singled on a 2-2 count, scoring Sarah Zeleney to make things 1-0. Maddie Siedlik and Michaela Miller added RBI singles later in the inning to give the Bruins a 4-0 lead.
The Comets chipped away at the lead in the third inning with an RBI double by
AJ Tinoco that scored
Kiana Ishikawa, Ishikawa also added to the comeback effort later by getting a base hit in the fifth and eventually scoring on a passed ball later in the inning to bring things to 4-2.
Bellevue responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own. Kayla Young got things started with a solo home run over the left field fence, then Sayde Woten drove in Maddie Siedlik with a double to left field. The Bruins added one more run in the fifth on a passed ball to bring to 7-2.
The Comets would tack on one more run in the sixth, but would drop game one to Bellevue, 7-3.
In game two against the Bruins, it came down to the last play. But, the Comets were on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to cap off a disappointing evening.
The Comets held an 8-6 lead with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when Maddie Siedlik singled up the middle, Alex Tooley followed that up with a single of her own, then Kaitlyn Kinman delivered a clutch triple that scored both Siedlik and Tooley to tie things up 8 runs apiece.
Sayde Woten then managed to deliver a walk-off base hit that scored Kinman, and give the Bruins the 9-8 win in game two.

Shaye Kemball added an RBI double to left that would score
Haley Kravetz and make things 3-0. Then, the Comets managed to put up five more runs in the third and build an 8-0 lead before things turned.
Bellevue University scored five runs in the fifth inning. The Bruins' big bats were led by Sarah Zeleny, Kayla Young, and Emily Gigax, all knocking in runs in the inning.
The Comets collected 15 hits on the day. Tinoco, Kravetz, and Kemball each collected three hits to lead MSU at the plate.
Bellevue collected twelve hits. Zeleny, Grace Glotfelty, and Woten each had multiple hits for the Bruins.
