BELLEVUE, NE - The Comets fell behind early in the first game of the double-header on Friday and couldn't come back in a 4-2 loss to Dickinson State. The Blue Hawks scored on a double by Emilie Sickler and a home run by Rachael Dillon in the second inning to go ahead and eventually get the win over Mayville State.
The Comets got on the board in the fifth inning when
Breeana Martinez homered over the right field fence to make things 1-4 at the time. Mayville State tacked on one more run in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough in the end.Â
Abigail Brooks got the win for Dickinson State University. She lasted four innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out three. Jalen Creech threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Shaye Kemball took the loss for the Comets after going six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one.
Danyelle Gutierrez went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Comets at the plate in game one.Â
In game two, Mayville State fell to the Blue Hawks 5-4 on the final play of the game. Dickinson State trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Rachael Dillon homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs for the walk-off victory.Â
The Comets lost despite out-hitting Dickinson State eight to seven, Mayville State opened up scoring in the first inning when
Danielle Sheridan got an RBI single that scored
Danyelle Gutierrez.Â
Dickinson State evened things up at two in the bottom of the sixth inning when Claire Shoffit grounded out, scoring a run for the Blue Hawks.
Then came the seventh inning. Down two runs, Dickinson State got one back off of a sac fly. Then, Racael Dillon delivered the walk-off 2-run shot to put the Comets away.Â
Abigail Brooks pitched Dickinson State to victory. She lasted three innings, allowing four hits and zero runs.
Haley Kravetz took the loss for Comets, she lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out three.
Danyelle Sheridan went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Comets in hits.
