CASSELTON, ND – The Mayville State Softball team struggled to get things going on Monday in their double-header with the University of Jamestown. The Jimmies won both games, taking the first 7-3 and the second 9-3 to improve their record to 35-6 overall and 18-3 in the NSAA. Mayville State falls to 12-23 overall and 8-14 in conference play. Â
Jamestown got things going right away in game one with three runs in the first off of four hits, a 2-run home run over the left field fence from Kassi Ward put Jamestown up 3-0 to start the game.Â
Mayville State was able to respond with two runs of their own in the third inning,
Megan Rabe got a base hit to the outfield that scored
Shaye Kemball and
AJ Tinoco to make things 3-2. But, the Jimmies put things away for good when they scored four runs in the sixth inning, leading to a 7-3 win for Jamestown.Â
Brittany Rheault and Jasmine Pipella combined to go seven innings, giving up one earned run and seven hits between the two.
Shaye Kemball took the loss for the Comets, giving up five earned runs on eleven hits. She struck out four and walked one batter. Â
Emma Keller went 3-for-4 at the plate for Jamestown in game one, she added two runs scored as well. Mikayla Frost and Meghan Ramage also both had two hits for the Jimmies.Â
Megan Rabe had a nice game for Mayville State by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.Â
Game two was much of the same story for the two teams. Jamestown got things going right away in the first inning with runs from Mikayla Frost and Emma Keller to give them a 2-run lead. Four more runs in the third inning were enough to put Mayville State away in the second game of the day.Â
Kassi Ward hit a 2-run home run on the first pitch of her at bat in the third to make things 6-0. The Comets responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning when
Sierra Niedge scored on a double from
Shaye Kemball, then put another one on the board in the fifth when
Kiana Ishikawa hit a solo shot over the left field fence. But, the runs were few and far between for Mayville State and the Comets dropped game two 9-3.Â
Kat Miska went six and third innings and gave up two earned runs while striking out ten Comet batters in the win.Â
Haley Kravetz took the loss, giving up nine runs on eleven hits. She walked one and struck out two.Â
Emma Keller and Morgan Geiszler each went 3-for-4 at the plate for UJ, Geiszler also provided three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Jimmies. Mikayla Frost added two hits of her own with an RBI.Â
