ABERDEEN, SD - A walk-off single from
Shaye Kemball in the bottom of the seventh inning led the Comets past Presentation College 4-3 in game one of their double-header on Friday afternoon. The game was tied at three when
Shaye Kemball singled on a 2-2 count, scoring
Kiana Ishikawa for the walk-off.
Kemball was also credited with the win in the circle for Mayville State. She allowed five hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out one.
Presentation got the scoring started with two runs in the fourth inning, Mayville State answered that in the bottom half on the inning with a run of their own after
AJ Tinoco singled in
Danyelle Gutierrez to make things 2-1. Then Breeanna Martinez was able to tag up and score off a
Kiana Ishikawa flyball to tie things up at two apiece in the fifth.
The Saints regained the lead in the sixth when Darrian Gibson drove in Lenessa Nelson on a base hit. But, the Comets responded in the bottom half of the inning and tied things up after
Shaye Kemball scored by tagging up on a
Megan Rabe flyball to center field.
Then Kemball delivered the game-winning hit in the next inning to give the Comets the 4-3 win.
The Comets tallied eight hits. Kemball and
AJ Tinoco each collected two hits to lead Comets at the plate in game one.
Lenessa Nelson led Presentation College with two hits in three at bats in the loss.
Both teams were strong in the circle in game two, but Presentation was able to get a little more going at the plate to get the victory over the Comets.
Haley Kravetz pitched a great game for the Comets, but Mayville State just couldn't provide the offense to get the win. Kravetz surrendered one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out ten and walking one.
A home run in the fourth inning from Lanessa Nelson was basically all the Saints could get off of Kravetz, unfortunately that's all they would need on their way to a 1-0 win.
The Comets lost despite out-hitting Presentation five hits to three.
Morgan Plumbtree earned the win for the Saints. She lasted seven innings, earned the shutout while allowing five hits and striking out five Comet batters.
