Comet Softball opens the 2022 season with four games at Presentation College Dome

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Softball team opens the 2022 season this weekend at Presentation College as they will play four games over two days. On Friday, the Comets will play the University of Jamestown at 10:00 am and Dakota Wesleyan at 6:00 pm. On Saturday, MSU will play Morningside College at noon and MSU-Moorhead at 2:00 pm. All games will be located at the Presentation College Dome.
 
Quick Hits on the Comets:
The Mayville State Comets enter the 2022 season after finishing the 2021 season with a 21-23 overall record and 15-13 in conference play.
Jocelyn Ontiveros is one of the returners for this year, as she finished last season with a .367 batting average, started in all 44 games, recorded 16 doubles, 11 home runs, 41 runs batted in, and had an on-base percentage of .466.
Ashlyn Tingey had a .368 batting average in 34 games for the Comets last season with 5 doubles, 1 home run, and 13 runs batted in.
Mackenzie Duval started in 40 games in 2021, finishing with a .250 batting average, 4 doubles, 6 triples, and stole 10 bases.
Brooke Roeges also started in all 44 games last season for the Comets finishing with a .221 batting average, six doubles, one triple, two home runs, and a .305 on-base percentage.
Courtney Boll returns in the circle for the Comets after posting a 7-8 record, allowing a 7.54 ERA, pitching in 90.2 innings, giving up 76 earned runs, 24 walks, and 32 strikeouts.
The Comets were selected fourth in the NSAA Preseason Coaches Poll in January with 40 points. Dickinson State was selected to win the conference with 58 points.
 
Matching up with the Jimmies:
The University of Jamestown is entering the weekend with a 4-1 overall record winning four straight games last weekend.
Through the first five games, UJ is hitting .350 as a team, recording 48 hits, 2 home runs, 30 runs batted in, and 3 stolen bases.
In the field, the Jimmies are allowing a 1.48 earned run average, 34 hits, 7 earned runs, 14 strikeouts, and a .970 fielding percentage.
Megan Neiles is leading the Jimmies with 6 hits, 1 double, 4 runs batted in, and a .500 batting average. Kat Miska has struck out 14 batters in 11.2 innings pitched and has allowed 4 earned runs.
 
Matching up with the Tigers:
The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers enter the weekend with a 1-3 overall record dropping two games to NCAA Division II teams earlier.
As a team, DWU are hitting .337, with 33 hits, 7 doubles, 14 runs batted in, and four stolen bases.
In the field, DWU is allowing a 9.10 earned run average, allowing 38 hits, 26 earned runs, striking out 13 batters, and having a fielding percentage of .931.
Reagan Grossi is leading the team with six hits, a .600 batting average, two doubles, and one run batted in. Meghan Daffern is 1-1 overall in the circle allowing 2.63 earned runs, allowing nine total hits, 3 earned runs, and six strikeouts.
 
Matching up with the Mustangs:
The Morningside Mustangs will also start the 2022 season at the Presentation College Dome this weekend as they head into the season ranked #20 in the NAIA Preseason Poll.
In the 2020 season, Morningside finished the year with a 43-11 overall record and 18-4 in conference play.
They advanced to the NAIA Opening Round and went 1-2 in the Southern Oregon Bracket defeating, St. Katherine but losing to Hope International twice.
 
Matching up with the Dragons:
They will open the 2022 season this weekend at the Presentation College Dome after they finished last season, with a 9-34 overall record and 7-12 in the NSIC.
The Comets and Dragons met up last season in March at Moorhead, and MSU defeated the Dragons in both games by a final score of 5-1 and 3-0.
