Men's Golf Places 6th at VCSU, Two on the Women's Side Have Personal Bests

Carrington, N.D. - The Comets Golf team headed over to Carrington, N.D. for the Viking Invite held at Crossroads Golf Club. Mayville State continued to trend in the right direction, setting numerous personal bests for both teams and individual scoring.

The Men's team set new personal bests in team scoring, firing a 327 team score on Day 1 and then knocked off six strokes from that total on Day 2 for a 321.  The 648 team score finished 6th out of 8 teams.

Damian Pokdrzywinski shot 82-77 for a 159 total, the 77 being a season best. Brandon Albrecht led the Comets on Day 1 with a 79 and followed that up with an 82 for a 161 total. Both Anderson Werner and Jamison Kramer also set season bests with their scores on Day 1.

Head coach John Murphy speaking on the men's side – "It's great to see our team and individual scores improve, especially with Anderson and Jamison. This will help our depth tremendously as we continue to compete."

"A team score of 321 is well ahead of schedule and 38 shots better than our first team score. Now we've entered the stage of turning that 321 into a 301 team score, and that will be much tougher than our first leap, added Murphy.

The Women's team also fared well for season best scores. Haley Blixt shot a personal best score of 94, then shaved two shots on Tuesday with a 92 for a two day total of 186. Miriam Carignan also shot a personal best on Day 1 and has taken off 15 shots from her first round of the season.

"Haley has been working very hard on her game and it shows," Coach Murphy said. "We both believe she can continue to improve this season. Miriam is very close to a breakthrough that's going to see her scores really drop. I'm confident she'll get there very soon."

Mayville State will be back in action this Friday in a dual meet with M State Fergus Falls, tee times will start at 12:30 at Maple River Golf Course.
