Jamestown, N.D. - Mayville State University Comets Women's & Men's golf participated in a two day invitational hosted by Jamestown Sunday and Monday.
Freshman
Satchel Tickel continued to shine for the Comets as he finished 3rd overall for the men at 151 (78-73). The men's team finished 5
th and 7
th out of 11 teams and the women finished 7th of 7.
The women originally had five golfers participating in the tournament, but two of them withdrew on day one, leaving just three golfers to contribute.
Coach Murphy's Highlights:
- Round one was a long and hot day and the unfamiliarity of the course played a factor
- Strong days by Satchel Tickel and Sam Preston helped our squad overall
- It was a quick turnaround with a day two round starting at 9am, but having a round under our belts made a big difference
- Today [Monday] was a case of playing 16 holes well and blowing up on a couple holes which affected our scoring significantly
- Satchel, Masen Nowacki, Eli Smith and Joey Carr had strong finishes to their day which hopefully continues at the NSAA Championship next week.
- Isabel Helde slashed 23 shots off her round one score and finished with a personal bestÂ
Full tournament scores for both the men and women will be uploaded once finalized.
Both teams will head to the NSAA Fall Tournament in Carrington, ND September 22nd and 23rd. The two day tournament will be held at the Crossroads Golf Course.Â
