Game Recap: Softball | | Jordan Olson, SID

Comet Softball Struggles at Dordt Dome Tournament

Sioux Center, Iowa - After the games last week in Kansas City, Kansas were canceled due to weather, the Comets were able to get back out on the field in SIoux Center, Iowa where they played four games in the Dordt Dome.

The Comets saw four GPAC opponents over the weekend and struggled to get any type of moment to stay on their side. Offensively, the Comets would find base runners over the four games but couldn't string anything together to capitalize. In the circle the Comets struggled to find rhythm, giving up consecutive walks and timely home runs.

"Overall, we are a little out of positioning, rotating a lot of young players around and trying to piece together some parts. It is not lost upon our team or staff that we are 1-11, however, we will wake up Monday and get back to work. Our players are bought in to eachother and believe in the process and that is all we can ask them to continue to do," said head coach Jordan Olson.

Game 1 vs. Dordt University L 0-11
- Dordt out hit the Comets 13-3
- Madison Terres, Miquela Pino & Maizie Wolanski all record 1 hit a piece
- Lacey Mathiowetz pitched 3 innings, gave up 7 hits & just 3 earned runs

Game 2 vs. College of Saint Mary L 10-11 (9 innings)
- First pitch was after 9:00pm
- Comets score 6 runs in the top of the 1st
- CSM chips away scoring 6 unanswered runs by the 4th
- CSM goes ahead 7-6 in the bottom of the 5th
- Comets answer tying it up in the 7th
- In the 8th, both teams score 2 runs to make it 9-9
- Comets score 1 in the 9th, are up 10-9
- CSM walks it off in the bottom of the 9th
- Lindsey Tulla, Madison Terres & Mathiowetz were each 2-5 with 2 RBI
- Comets record 11 hits in the game & strand 10 on base
- MSU snags 5 stolen bases, all from different Comets

Game 3 vs. Briar Cliff L 10-2
- MSU gets on the board first (bottom 1) off an Autumn McGough double
- Briar Cliff hits a 3 run home run in the 3rd to go up 3-1
- Bats are quiet for both teams until Briar Cliff scores 4 in the 6th & 3 in the 7th
- 7 different Comets recorded 1 hit each
- McGough & Mathiowetz both recorded an RBI

Game 4: vs. Hastings College L 8-0
- Hastings hits a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 1st
- Hastings adds 2 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings & 1 in the 5th to walk it off in 5 innings
- Antarez Sierra went 2-3
- Mathiowetz & Wolanski recorded the other 2 hits for the Comets
- Mayville State left 6 on base

"We aren't going to reinvent the wheel, we need to collectively be more competitive, make some adjustments on the mound individually to keep us in games and offensively, we need to string hits together with a more confident approach at the plate. I look forward to heading down south next week and playing on some real dirt and seeing the sky when we play instead of a ceiling."

The Comets will head down to Wichita, Kansas next Friday and Saturday where they will get another crack at York and Hastings and will see two new opponents. The tournament is hosted by Friends University and will be the first time the Comets hit real dirt and are outside this season.
