Football Hires John O'Grady to the 2025 Coaching Staff

Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State University Football and head coach, Rocky Larson, announced Tuesday the hiring of John O'Grady to the 2025 football coaching staff. He will work primarily with quarterbacks and with the special teams.

"I am so excited to have Coach O'Grady on staff with us. He gave me my first job in college football at 18 years old back in 2010 and UWRF," said Larson. "He was one of my father's mentors and great friend; he was the head coach at UWRF for 22 years, so to be able to get someone to help with the head coaching duties while I am doing athletic director duties is a win win.

O'Grady comes to Mayville State from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he was an assistant coach and special teams coordinator for 10 years. O'Grady enters his 50th season as a coach at the collegiate level after 41 years at the Division III level and 8 years at the Division I level. He is in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

During his coaching career, he has been apart of 12 conference championships and one national championship. He retired from head coaching after the 2010 season at University of Wisconsin-River Falls, but has remained coaching ever since. He has had roles as head coach, assistant coach, HPER instructor, and student advising.

"Thank you to Coach Larson and the staff for fitting me in. Thank you to Dr. Van Horn for his welcoming presence and giving me a chance to work at Mayville State," said O'Grady. "I am looking forward to coaching quarterbacks again in a system that I know.
