The Mayville State University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Minot State University in Dakota Athletic Conference play. Minot State took the first game 5-0 and then got the sweep by winning a close second game 7-5.
Game 1: Mayville State 0 – Minot State 5
The Comet offense was unable to find their stride in game one of the series doubleheader. The Comets came up with only four hits in the game and took six strike outs. The Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They added an extra run in third, fourth and sixth innings to make the final score 5-0.
Game 2: Mayville State 5 – Minot State 7
MSU's offense did start to click in game two of the day. The Comets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. But the Beavers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third and then exploded for five runs in the fourth. Mayville State scored two runs in the fifth inning but were unable to complete the rally. Minot State took the game 7-5.
The two loses drop the Comets to 11-20 overall and 7-6 in the DAC. The Comets continue conference play in a doubleheader with Valley City State University on Thursday, April 21 in Valley City.
